Locations & Zones

Location Hierarchy

InvenTrack uses a three-level hierarchy to organize physical locations:

Campus

The highest level - represents a facility or building

Zone

A section within a campus (e.g., Floor 1, Warehouse A)

Location

Specific spot within a zone (e.g., Room 101, Shelf B-3)

Campus Management

Creating a Campus

  1. Navigate to Inventory → Locations
  2. Click "New Campus" button
  3. Fill in the campus details:
    • Name: Unique identifier for the campus
    • Address: Physical address
    • Coordinates: GPS coordinates for map placement
    • Description: Additional details about the campus
  4. Click "Create Campus" to save

Tip: You can get GPS coordinates by right-clicking on Google Maps and selecting "What's here?"

Zones

Creating Zones

Zones help organize large campuses into manageable sections:

  1. Select a campus from the locations list
  2. Click "Add Zone"
  3. Enter zone information:
    • Zone Name: e.g., "Ground Floor", "Warehouse Section A"
    • Zone Type: Storage, Office, Production, etc.
    • Capacity: Maximum items this zone can hold
  4. Save the zone

Creating Locations within Zones

  1. Navigate to the zone where you want to add locations
  2. Click "Add Location"
  3. Specify location details:
    • Location Name: Specific identifier (e.g., "Room 101", "Rack A-3-5")
    • Location Code: Short code for quick reference
    • Type: Storage rack, room, desk, etc.
    • RFID Reader: Associate with an RFID reader if applicable

Map Integration

Placing Locations on the Map

The map view provides visual representation of your locations:

  1. Go to Inventory → View by Zone
  2. Select "Map View" tab
  3. To place a location:
    • Click on the location marker
    • Drag to the desired position on the map
    • Click "Save Position"

Geofencing

Set up geofences to trigger alerts when items enter or leave designated areas:

Setting Up a Geofence

  1. Select a location on the map
  2. Click "Edit Geofence"
  3. Draw the boundary by clicking points on the map
  4. Set the fence properties:
    • Alert on entry/exit
    • Authorized items only
    • Time-based restrictions
  5. Save the geofence
